Mission

Eco-friendly bamboo charcoal project in Ngimbi

Project in Ngimbi

Initiated during a first visit in 2017, this pilot project aims to implement the production of charcoal from bamboo. 300 hectares of bamboo have been planted and 11 ovens were tested. During this trial, between 4 and 5 tonnes of charcoal were produced (approximately 120 bags), with each batch taking close to 6 hours to complete. After the trial it was determined that industrial equipment is required to make the production process profitable.

Once fully grown, bamboo can regenerate in 4 months and captures 300 tonnes of CO2 per hectare
