Empowering women and youth for a sustainable future in the DRC

Learn, Plant, Transform: Together for an Eco-responsible Future

At the Association Canadienne d’Aide au Développement Agricole en République Démocratique du Congo (ACADARC), our mission is clear: to empower women and youth through sustainable initiatives that change lives. Working with traditional top-loading ovens presents many ergonomic and efficiency challenges. To address these needs, we are developing a horizontal-loading oven that is much easier to use and maintain. This project aims to improve working conditions for women and youth involved in food processing.

In the face of forest degradation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, we are launching a bamboo nursery project to contribute to reforestation. Bamboo is a fast-growing, renewable resource that is ideal for restoring degraded land while preparing the ground for future plantings. This project is in line with our long-term vision of sustainable, environmentally friendly agriculture.

A sustainable future in rdc

Our Commitment

ACADARC strives to provide local communities with the tools, resources, and training they need to sustain themselves. Our projects focus on economic self-sufficiency through agriculture, ecological transformation, and innovation.

Bamboo is a fast-growing plant, capable of regenerating rapidly without replanting after each harvest. It offers numerous ecological advantages:

  • CO2 reduction : Mature bamboo captures up to 40 tonnes of CO2 per hectare, per year.
  • Rapid growth: In just 4 months, bamboo reaches sufficient maturity to be harvested, making it an exceptional renewable resource.
  • Soil rehabilitation: Thanks to its deep roots, bamboo helps prevent soil erosion while increasing soil fertility .

Our development project for horizontal-loading furnaces have a significant impact on the working conditions of our communities:

  • Improved productivity: These new models increase productivity by 25%, enabling better management of energy resources.
  • Reduced drudgery: Reducing physical effort by 50% makes work easier for users, especially women and young people, who are often responsible for these tasks.
  • Energy savings: Through an innovative design, these furnaces consume less wood, reducing environmental impacts while increasing efficiency.
